Everyone knows that stretching, working out and eating healthy
are essential to maintain a healthy body. Even if you work out and
stretch before or after work, or even if you don’t, it is
a good idea to stretch throughout the day while at work. There are
simple stretches you can do right at your desk. Stretching throughout
the day is important because it will help reduce the risk of RSI,
or repetitive strain injuries, associated with tasks done in the
office. The following are a few tips on stretching at your desk:
· Stretch frequently. Do one or two stretches every 20-30
minutes.
· Remember to always sit up straight.
· If you are typing or writing, do hand and arm stretching
frequently.
· Rotate your wrist up and down, holding each position
3-5 seconds.
· Stretching your elbows is important. Hold your hands
together, fingers pointed upward, and raise your arms so they
are perpendicular to your body.
· Do a shoulder shrug to help alleviate tension in the
neck and shoulder area, holding 3-5 seconds.
· Move your head slowly left and then right stretching
your neck, holding each side for about 3 seconds.
· Roll your shoulders in a circular motion forward a few
times and then backward.
· Raise your arms, clasp your hands, and reach, stretching
your back.
· Hold each knee to stretch not only your legs, but your
lower back as well.
Doing a few simple stretches throughout your work day can help
reduce tension, and aches and pains. Stretching will help you feel
better and can lighten up your mood, as even a little exercise will
release much needed endorphins to get you through your long work
day.
